I got your PM to me asking if I had got your email re the Mystery and I tried to rely - " Yes thanks" and I got a message that you don't accept PM's. That's ok by me. I think it should all go on in here too.

Thanks Wendy for the heads up. I was unaware of that.

Yes I would like all the chat about the mystery to go on in here, but not good you couldn't PM me back. I do get personal messages. I just needed to know I had the correct email addresses for everyone and that the first one got there etc. Maybe my settings have changed while I was puddling around in there a few days ago? I will go and have a look at that right now........... Sorry for the inconvenience to Wendy and others who might have tried too!

OK, looks like it was me puddling in the profile preferences a few days ago that has caused the problem. I have just ticked YES to everything now including receive PM from 'all Members' instead of 'from my friends'. (Who knew I didn't have any friends!! ) Hope it is all fixed now?

Now that I know everyone has their initial Purchases PDF, I will repost from a previous page and see if we can't get a conversation going in here.

These questions are always a good place to start planning any new quilt.

Who will you make your quilt for?
Where will they use it?
What colour/theme will you be looking for?
What type of wadding/batting will you use and why?
What type of quilting do you usually favor and why?

Now.... let the Mystery BEGIN and LETS HAVE SOME FUN!!!

there is no one in particular this quilt will be for ... that all depends on what it is like when it is finished ... i am sure it will speak to me about who will own it as we go along ..

no idea who ... so i have no idea when and where it will be used ...


i am thinking i will go with some brights as i know i have some of them in the tubs i have here with me ... not sure if there will be enough ... but i will make do i am sure ...

i have some very low loft woolen wadding ... also some cotton stuff ..depends on who gets this as to what i end up using ... different family lives in different areas ...

i normally do stitch in the ditch cos i am not very adventurous or creative when it comes to the quilting part .... and although i would love to do free motion quilting i don't seem to have the 'flair' for it ...

I have tried to pm Evelyn several times today and can't but had managed it yesterday. At this stage it looks like admin will have to fix it? as Evelyn has been unable to thus far.

I bought my fabric.... I found the perfect print for an almost 6 yo grandaugher.......sorry Grandson, you will have to wait lol. About to post a pic and looking for 2 more fabrics, the background and a high contrast...hmmm...or can use this as the accent (and border) Have a squizzy and tell me what you think?

The ponies are just under 3 inches if I place a ruler over them. Do I go brown spotty for the background and pink print for the other?

i did get a message from Evelyn to say she had fixed her settings .. apparently she ticked something that should have been tocked ... and changed stuff ... but all is ok now ...

so you should all be able to get and receive stuff ... i will go and have a look see if things are not working again ... but ...

so T .. it is not that you couldn't help .. it is just it was already fixed ...

Not so Bobbie, I emailed and PM Karen and Jen and asked them to PM me after I 'fixed' what I thought was the problem.............. neither one can PM me still and Tarnyia has looked at my settings after I 'fixed' what I thought was the problem and she thought my settings were all correct.... but I am not getting any pms from members who are not administrators.

Bobbie can you go take a look at my profile etc and see if I have done something wrong please? Also, Tarnyia has a nice new flower dress.......... I have been thinking about putting a dress on too............. but my profile will not allow me to do that either!! Gremlins?????

But actually I don't see the need for PMs myself. As far as I am concerned this is the thread for chatting about the mystery quilt.

Wendy, I only asked that you and Jen try again today please so I know the PM is working properly and that neither of you is being blocked if you try to contact me (for any reason). Hopefully anyone else can now contact me again too if necessary?

The reason I need PM contact with all mystery participants is only to confirm your email address to send emails to for the mystery (DONE) and if you are the winner of one of the prizes on offer I will need your snail mail address PMed to me too! (I wouldn't want anyone to put either of these in this mystery forum as it is a PUBLIC FORUM AND CAN BE VIEWED BY ALL, not just the members of the cottage forum.) I also asked for confirmation that you each received your first emails with the Purchases List PDF because I have not used that email service before to send bulk emails and wanted to know it had worked (DONE).

Other than that, yes please, all chat about the mystery should, and is being done in this thread.

Step 9 - You might like to choose the accent/border fabric first, then choose a dark background fabric and medium/light contrast fabric out of it to coordinate with the accent/border fabric.

Fabric 3: Partially says............ is an accent that should give the design an added interest and a little lift or sparkle.

Step 10: Partially says .................. choose smaller/medium size prints that will read as solids when viewed from a distance. The accent/border fabric will also be used within the blocks.

The pony fabric is very cute and would make a great border! Because the ponies are around 3" in size, these might get 'lost' in the quilt as the accent? (Inside information: the accent patches are "little", smaller than 3".)

I know it is a bit mean of me not to tell you all more at this time, but it is supposed to be a mystery..... right?

Keep the ponies for the border and maybe choose 3 more fabric colours out of it for the blocks?

Karen, I re-read too that you are making this mystery quilt into a bed-size quilt (or were when it was going to be motorbikes for the grandson........?).

Is this pony quilt for the granddaughter going to be made bigger than the mystery quilt which will be 43" sq finished (including the border and binding)?

If so, I suggest you purchase some extra fabric of each colour chosen to make extra blocks needed for a bed size quilt after the mystery is revealed.

Now I can hear you saying........... But, how much extra will I need???? ha ha
That depends on the finished size of the quilt you want to make.

I will tell you all, there are 16 x 8" sq blocks to be made and these will finish at 35" sq and the accent border and binding combined are 4" wide finished. The block setting is 4 x 4 (that is..... 4 blocks across by 4 blocks down).

Karen, tell me how many blocks across and down you need to make the quilt top (without the border and binding) so it is big enough for what you need and I will be happy to re-calculate your fabric purchases for that many blocks and post those calculations here for all to see (in case others might want to make theirs bigger too later)?

oohhh I am happy to just do the mystery as I don't want to create waves. but maybe

I would like to make the quilt with 5 blocks across and
6 blocks down. I have 1 metre of the ponies fabric. Is that enough for the
border? and I do have some stash to look through, pinks and purples? but I better get to the 6th birthday party, woops.

That's ok Karen, no waves. Just don't want to disapoint the granddaughter with a smaller quilt than the others got? haha

ok .. i have done a little research into the mystery of the PM .... apparently if you send too many in any one day or week or period of time ... and no one can tell me exactly how many is too many ... but if you do this the program reacts to this as if it is spammers at work so it shuts you down .... there is no way i can over-ride this and it is in place for a very good reason .... so ... maybe all PM's should be kept to a very minimum and there should be no further reoccurrence of this happening ...

Thanks Bobbie, I had to do a few PMs lately getting this mystery thread up and running, checking on participant's emails and the initial PDF email to make sure it was received.

It is very strange though that everyone got my PMs but were blocked from replying....?

Sorry if I have inconvenienced anyone here. Not expecting to have to do as many PMs in the future.
