Hello ladies,

Here I sit unable to sleep, so thought I would poke around the internet and i came across an interesting tip,,,, I thought I would share it with all of you...

Quilting Tip: Don't have the right colour thread for your project? Use grey - it seems to go with everything!

I am working on a runner it is blue and white but I think I will try this and see how it looks. Will let you know in a day or two.

Ann you are correct and this is a great tip.......... but there are at least '50 shades of grey' (or so I am lead to believe)! lol!

To check which is the the most suitable shade of grey that you might have (assuming you have more than one shade that is?) lay a strand of each grey you have across the blue fabric and see which one you like the look of best. Some will blend in well while others will contrast. It all depends on the look you are going for.

Cream/beige thread is another one to use for your lighter fabrics when you don't have the right colour for your project. Once again, there are many shades of creams through to beige. Just do the same test (as above with the grey threads on the blue) with those that you have to see which one you like the look of best.

There is one other product (that I am reluctant to recommend because it melts on contact with heat - especially the iron!!!) called monofiliment thread which comes in clear and grey and it will blend with any fabric as well......... but melts, so only use it where you know it will never be touched by heat.

I have seen the look of horror on one quilt owner's face after she laundered and began to iron her beautiful quilt (made and given to her by her daughter who forgot to tell Mum not to iron it!!). affraid

Not sleeping well ........... not good ............. and also something I am guilty of on more nights than I care to admit! Hope you get a good night's sleep soon. oxox

great tip annie ... must admit i have been down both roads you are on at present .. the thread one .. and the sleeplessness ...

sleeplessness ... i recommend what i found at the supermarket ... called 'sleepytime' tea ... just a herbal tea .... and it does seem to work when i remember to drink it ...

i have tried the valerian .. but too much or too little a dose will have adverse reactions ... and it comes in so many different strengths ... which one to use ... ???? .... is anyones guess .. and i don't have the $$$ to keep trying them all .... but this tea .. let it steep for the time described and boom .. within half an hour i am ready for lights out ...

i am not sure of the brand name cos i take it out of the box and pop them in a tupperware box in the pantry .... but i will find that out and let you know if you are interested ... and .. they smell a little like vanilla ... so that is not at all unpleasant really ...

and thanks for thinking to put this thread up .. have been thinking of doing it myself for a while now ... good on ya ...

Hahahahaha Bobbie,

I tried sewing one night. Poor Jim I forgot that the head of our bed was on the other wall as my machine. But I do play games here to or check emails.
